My thoughts….my work
Friday, December 25th, 2009Making films in India is one of the most trying experiences ever…….or perhaps making films in itself is a rather trying experience. But the question is what is it that keeps us wanting to put up with all the nonsense and still go out and make a film- I wonder!
I enjoy making films. I work as a Production Designer and quite love the fact that I can play God on the canvas of a film.
However, over time I have come to realise that a Production Designer’s job can be quite thankless. The better your work is the less noticeable it is. Only a very discerning eye can actually understand beforehand the difference a good designer can make. However once the product is ready and presented to the world, be it a film set, a book cover, a piece of clothing….whatever, a good design can carry a lot on its shoulders.
At this point it is essential to mention that hiring a good designer does not necessarily mean stepping into a world of bulky and labour intensive designing execution. Basically its all about putting together a well chiseled visual language that serves to enhance a particular thought, mood, emotion etc.
